Craig buys 4 tickets for a peace benefit concert in New York. A month after the WTC came down, Craig's 3 friends are still too jittery to go to NYC. Craig has never left Michigan, let alone driven to the east coast. Point to take note of: I didn't know Craig. In a normal world, Craig's plans would never have affected me. But as we all know, this is not a very normal world (at least for me.)
I hear about Craig's plans from Noah. That night, I meet Craig. Craig and I leave.
We did go down to the financial district while we were in Manhatten. Blocks away from the WTCs the streets were covered in ash, the sidewalks were lined with flowers, the air was filled with dust, and people stood in masses mourning, taking pictures, and just staring at what was left. Guardsmen stood posted by exits with machine guns. Helicopters flew patrols around the Statue of Liberty. All in all, New York was a mess.
Despite all that, the trip turned out to be pretty fun. We saw the Museum of Natural History with the new Hayden Planetarium. The Roots, Mos Def, N.E.R.D., and The Beastie Boys all rocked out at the concert. Our hotel was also pretty nice since it was right off of Time Square. I couldn't have asked for anything more from my time in New York. And what a powerful time to have been there.
